You’re a parent.
It is your circus.
Those are YOUR monkeys.
Having young children is everything you do not expect it to be. Never in my life did I ever think I’d have to tell someone to not put their face in front of their pee-dinkle because if they do they will pee on their face. But, here I am, 26 years of age, and I have literally had to say that out loud to my son. If you haven’t potty trained a boy… you will never understand. The Martin Family is one of my favorite families to work with, and it’s because they are real. Their youngest child, Hudson, is just like any boy and, of course, he hates wearing clothes. I get it, both of my sons run around practically naked all the time. Hudson was over it by the end of their session and let it ALL hang out. No pants… no problems. I had to get a memorable family photo to show what it’s really like in the life of a mother with a toddler boy. Sweet little Blakely didn’t even think twice about it. I know it must be a mess living with a little brother like Hudson! :) Love these kiddos. Both are so sweet and adorable! Thanks again to the Martin Family for choosing me to be your family photographer! I love capturing these memorable moments for you guys! Hudson will one day hate me, haha!!
I had such a fun time with Molly and John at their engagement session at the gorgeous Elyton Hotel yesterday morning! I serious loved this location. Molly and John met last January and went on a food tour at the Elyton on their first date. This is such a cute session and I loved capturing the love between these two! <3
Soooo, here is a little back story from my session tonight. I know in most places it’s rained, but it has not rained in Steele in like 3 weeks. No joke like a month without a good rain. It’s DRY up in here, y’all. The rain goes around us all the time. Well, tonight I look at the radar as there is a chance of rain today. 6:00 PM… 0% chance of rain. I’m like, “GOOD. It is gonna rain, but not when I have my session with the Howards today.” WELL, literally as soon as they pull up. It starts POURING rain. And really, it doesn’t stop until 20 minutes before it’s DARK. But thank God they stuck it out with me. They waited and got rained on, and I am so thankful for their patience with me. I was so upset this happened, but they were so kind about it! You just have to laugh when things like this happen! I prayed for rain, and I SUUUUURE got it, ha!!
Taking photos of this precious girl tonight literally reminds me of the lyrics to Michael Buble's new song, "Forever Now". This sweet baby is going to be one soon, and it is such a reminder of how fast they grow. I know this Mama is saying, "Slow down just a little bit and let me love you a little longer." <3
"I tuck you in at night
Another day has passed
Every week goes by a little faster than the last
It wasn't so long ago
We walked together and you held my hand
And now you're getting too big to want to
But I hope you'll always understand
That I'm always gonna lift you up
And I'm never gonna let you down
No matter what you do
I'm forever proud of you
I'll love you forever now."
I love my summer creek minis. When it’s blazing hot outside, it’s always so much fun to take a dip in the water and cool off, EVEN DURING A PHOTO SESSION, WHAAAA! I know, you’re gonna look at these and wish you were half as freaking adorable as Lesty and Rachel are together. I mean these two can go from adorable to steamy is a second! They are seriously so cute together I can’t even handle it. Also, Happy Birthday to my pal, Rachel! Thank you for allowing me to shoot this session on your day! We had a blast!!
I loved this last minute maternity session this week at Dayspring Farm in Springville! This beautiful mama was 4 cm already at this session! I can’t believe how amazing she looked already that far along! She was a champ too. Walked around the farm and didn’t even act like she was tired! Congratulations to these two! You’re going to love being parents!
This little family is one of my favorites. I love all my clients, but this one stands out to me. I knew Neil growing up, but actually my relationship actually came from the connection with Kaylyn while I shot her birth of Emmett. Since Emmett’s birth I’ve shot so many big moments for this sweet family. I feel like I’ve been part of their lives through so much. I’ve watched them grow, especially sweet Emmett. I can’t believe he’s pretty much a year and a half old! Which blows my mind. I can’t even believe that!! This session is a super special one for me. Kaylyn is about to give birth in a few weeks to her second, precious baby boy. I cannot wait to shoot the birth of Oliver!!! It’s BEYOND amazing and such a huge blessing to me to be able to photograph these moments for this sweet family. Being able to grow and see this family grow is my favorite thing ever. I feel like I’ve experience so much with them and it’s beyond exciting to celebrate with them. I can’t wait to meet the newest addition to the Evans Family!!!
This sweet baby boy is about to turn one and his session was awesome! I always love working at Dayspring Farm because first of all it’s absolutely breath taking, but the staff is also my favorite! We loved having Waylon’s session here and it was so fitting for such a cute little man. Waylon and his mother are too sweet. He IS totally a Mama’s Boy and ain’t even mad haha!
This maternity session at Birmingham Botanical Gardens is one of my favorites. It was such a gorgeous summer day, and this mama and dad were so excited for the upcoming weeks to meet their baby girl! Maternity Sessions are one of my favorites. I remember the times of the upcoming events, the fact I was about to have a sweet baby to hold and love, the fact I could feel a human being moving around inside my body and the miracle it is to just have that happen is incredible. To be able to photograph other mothers in this beautiful phase of life is amazing. It’s personally something I enjoy just as much as I do photographing newborns, and who doesn’t love snuggling sweet newborn babies?! I am so thrilled for this sweet family and the beautiful journey they have ahead of them. <3
I have clients from all walks of life. I love the diversity of my clients and how even though they are all different, I get to capture their families for who they are and they can have images that show the love they share. I pray that God sends me clients I need to have to bless them with images that they can cherish for years to come. But, this year when I was thinking over my goals for 2019, God spoke something to me for my business. He told me to capture the His faithfulness, His love, and the stories of hope of His people. When Heather sent me a message for a beach session, it was not like my normal messages. She told me that she lost her daughter, Adalyn, at 8 months old and everywhere they go a beautiful pink and purple sunset follows them and it reminds her of her sweet baby girl. She wanted to capture this with her family as they traveled from Michigan to Gulf Shores, AL. I, of course, wanted to do this for them because I knew God was sending me a story and testimony to share. Before I continue with how much I adore this session and how amazing it was, let me share a little about Adalyn with you all and the amazing things the West family is doing with Adalyn’s legacy she left here on earth.
On September 21st, 2016 Adalyn West was born. It was the most special moment of her parents lives. Shortly after birth, she started struggling to breath and her oxygen saturation was lower than it should be. The family’s lives turned upside-down at that moment. Within a couple of hours, Adalyn was transferred to another hospital, and there they discovered her heart condition. They would discover over the next days and months, that Adalyn had Scimitar Syndrome, a very rare type of Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return. Even though she had a laundry list of diagnosis, you would never know it by looking at her. There was something special about Adalyn…there was this light surrounding her, and they call it her sparkle. It was undeniable, and something you couldn’t ignore. She also had a way of looking into your soul, with her big beautiful blue eyes. This amazing little girl, with her bright hairbows, perfect little nose, eyebrows that could hold their own conversation with you, and a beautiful smile that could light up a room, was the most courageous fighter in all the world. She had 3 open heart surgeries, five heart catheterizations, numerous MRI’s, CT scans, and countless procedures. She was their little hero. She taught them the most important things about life in her 8 months than most people learn or experience in a lifetime. On May 18, 2017, they had to say their earthly goodbyes and they promised Adalyn that they would fight in her name for other children with CHD.
With all of this said, this brings me back to this session. I don’t question why God sends me the clients He does, but for this session I did. I did because Adalyn’s story and THIS SESSION literally touched my soul. And normally I’m not one to use these terms. This family was so kind, loving, and incredibly in touch with the present. Bring present with one another was so apparent with them, it’s rare to see this today. They are so affectionate and even the children was in tune with the strong amount of love. You could sense it. I captured this family exactly as they are. Once you see these images you will know exactly what I am talking about. The pinks and purples the family are wearing are significant. They wear these colors in memory of Adalyn’s full and beautiful life. I thought it was so important to note that because I feel like these colors add something so special to the images below.
As far as Adalyn’s story goes, she showed me last night. Yesterday was completely overcast here at the Gulf. I was devastated driving to the session as I wasn’t able to provide the sunset photos Heather was wanting. I told her I was going to add a overlay background because I was so sad I couldn’t give her what she was wanting for Adalyn’s story. You guys aren’t going to believe this…. the last five minutes of this session… the clouds moved out and a sunset came out. I kid you not, A SUNSET CAME OUT WHEN WE HAD NOTHING BUT CLOUDS ALL DAY LONG. God and Adalyn gave us such a gift last night. The last picture is of that sunset with Adalyn’s Dad, Mom, and Little Sister. I appreciate the West Family for allowing me to capture their family vacation, and not only that but to share Adalyn’s story.
I want to share with you all that if you would like to read more about Adalyn’s legacy and the amazing things the West family are doing to carry on her life and also to make awareness please see the links below to get involved. The West Family does many acts of kindness and works to help others who are also going through the same things they have. Please visit the link below to find out more about how you can get involved!
I am so happy my friend Megan asked me to photograph her and her beautiful daughter. Megan is also a photographer of Megan Sisson Photography and she is one of my sweetest friends. I am thankful that Megan and I have become friends over this past year. She’s by far one of the kindest, funniest, and talented people I’ve met. I am grateful for a community around me that is so supportive and also let’s me photograph their family whenever, haha!
I love working with my friends, but especially when they are photographers too. My sweet friend, Lindsey Bradford, of Lindsey Bradford Photography is beautiful and talented and I am so glad she allows me to always photograph her beautiful family. This session was by far one of my favorites this spring. The wildflowers are Botanical Gardens are insanely beautiful! It will for sure be a spot I use every year. <3
Yesterday, I had the honors of photographing the Hays’ at Birmingham Botanical Gardens in such a special time in their lives. They are just weeks away from meeting their sweet baby girl! Welcoming your fist child into the world is such a fun, exciting, and also uncertain time. You are so ready to meet this little person, this little stranger, who you’ve been wanting to see for 9 months. You are excited to see her, but at the same time the uncertainty of parenthood is in the back of your mind. Not knowing what comes next. What giving birth will be like, what do you do when you come back home and it’s just you two with this tiny little human? But what’s also so funny in this time is you find that God has instilled these natural instincts for you to have. As a mother you just know this person so well that you just met. Even though you just met, you know everything this little one needs and it comes from you. Your body and your being was built for this. God doesn't make mistakes and he didn’t make a mistake by giving you this child. Being a new mom is a crazy experience, but it’s the most rewarding thing you will ever do. Payton, I am so excited to see you come into this role and how awesome of a mom you are going to be! I know you are going to be so blessed by this sweet baby and you two are going to be awesome parents! Congratulations!!
I met Kara and Logan last year for their wedding in October. It was one of my favorite weddings I’ve ever shot. I got to photograph them again yesterday and it was yet again a great session! Their chemistry is incredible and I just love photographing them. Plus, when Kara texted me they had a more “retro” outfit for this shoot I was excited to see what they had planned. And, of course, they did not let me down. It fit the whole vibe I was going for with the ice-cream and more urban setting for their session. Kara, Logan, you guys are the freaking best.
I had such a fun time with my friend Megan and her sweet daughter Blakely. I love the bond between these two. The bond between a mother and her daughter is so beautiful. You can tell by these photos these two are best buds for life. <3
When Michelle sent me a message earlier this week and asked would I be interested in shooting her adorable courthouse wedding I said, HECK YES. And I’m so glad I did because it was perfect. Seriously a huge Congratulations to this sweet family. The live between these two as a couple is magical, but adding in the live for their precious baby girl is just icing on the cake. Now, introducing, Mr. and Mrs. Howard! ❤️
